DSHS is revising the hearing aid program by conducting a two-phase process of changing our policies and practices, including updating the program in response to technology changes. The hearing aid industry is actively engaged in that part of the process.

In the memo HRSA:

·         Redefined high powered digital aids to include non-programmable aids,

·         Clarified the coverage criteria and prior authorization requirements for several codes, and

·         Separated adult’s and children’s fee schedules and policy

·         A new form for requesting Limitation Extensions [DSHS 13-772] is now available for    downloading at :  http://www.dshs.wa.gov/msa/forms/eforms.html

Phase two changes will be released soon as HRSA is working toward other updates and changing the fee schedule, to be completed this summer.

12/22/05- CMS has made changes to the billing codes for this program.  HRSA is updating our fee schedule to match the codes of CMS.  Revisions will be effective for dates of service on and after January 1, 2006.  Changes may include additions, deletions and changes of descriptions.  Depending on the changes there may also be changes to some rates and policy.

10/18/05 - The Hearing Aid program is being reviewed to determine if we should unbundle the rates.  Currently the rate includes more than the hearing aid.  To unbundle the rate would mean codes for dispensing, fitting and others could be used.  If you have comments we would like to hear from you.

7/1/05 - The new July 1, 2005 fee schedule became effective

4/26/05 - The rates for the hearing aid program will be revised in 2005.

7/1/04 - The rates for hearing aids and related services will not change for 7/1/04:
