Medicare Prescription Drug Program - Part D


The Medicare Prescription Drug program is a benefit for Medicare beneficiaries
and provides a choice of prescription plans that offer various types of coverage.

To help you learn more about this program and choose the right plan to meet your prescription needs, this site provides you with important information and resources.

  1. Find the different Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (MPDPs) in Washington by clicking on the MPDP link and selecting the state.

  2. Search Formulary Finder for Prescription Drug Plans

    Find out which MPDP covers your drugs.
    Have your prescription drugs handy.
    You will need the name and dosage of each prescription.

     
  3. Enroll in the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan you've selected
     
  4. Contact the SHIBA helpline, if you need help to complete these steps
     
    Apply for Extra Help with the Medicare
    Prescription Drug Program.

    Who needs to apply for the EXTRA HELP?  If you have Medicare and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Medicare and Medicaid, you automatically will get the extra help and DO NOT need to apply.

    If you have Medicare, but you DO NOT have SSI or Medicaid, you should apply.


    Pharmacists:   A numbered memo for pharmacists is available to help bill HRSA for Medicare Part D co-payments for Medicaid recipients. Use this link to find Memo 06-07 and this link to find the update distributed on February 23, 2006.  On June 27, 2006, an additional update was issued to pharmacists on the New Prescription Eligibility Requirements.
